    Wine Profile
    Tasting Notes
This elegant Chardonnay features tropical aromas of pineapple, guava, lemon rind and vanilla with a very light toast. It is creamy on the palate with flavours of peach, Asian pear, melon and pineapple, with subtle hints of spice.
    Vineyard Notes
Clone 76, own rooted, planted 1994, plus Clone 76 on 3309 rootstock, planted 2010, cane pruned and then shoot and fruit thinned to produce 3 short tons per acre. The 2016 vintage was warm and dry early in the season with temperatures averaging over 20C by the end of March and highs over 30C until mid-June. After the second week of June the temperatures cooled, with significant diurnal shifts dropping at night to lows of 5C. We also experienced elevated levels of precipitation for the region, allowing us to avoid irrigating in many blocks for several weeks. The rainfall remained higher than average throughout July. August was critical to this vintage, with the rainfall ending and temperatures warming to more seasonal averages. Slow ripening continued through the month of September and the first light frost came on October 11th.
    Winemaker Notes
Chardonnay, exclusively from our Allendale Vineyard, was harvested in the middle of September and crushed before pressing. The fermentation was started in stainless steel and then racked to mostly neutral (16% new) French oak barrels where it continued to ferment for several weeks, with daily lees stirring. Lees stirring continued weekly through partial (65%) Malolactic fermentation The wine was barrel aged for 10 months before blending and bottling in August.
    Food Pairing Notes
This wine would pair well with Portuguese chicken, poached sole with mango chutney, creamy pasta dishes, or simply a big bowl of buttered popcorn and your favourite Netflix show.
