    PhotoArk comes to Liquidity

‘National Geographic Photo Ark’ Exhibition to Open June 23 at LIQUIDITY WINERY in OKANAGAN FALLS

Indoor/Outdoor Exhibition Showcases Photographer Joel Sartore’s Work
to Document Every Species in Captivity

The National Geographic Photo Ark is an ambitious project committed to documenting every species in captivity—inspiring people not just to care, but also to help protect these animals for future generations. The National Geographic Photo Ark is a compelling and visually powerful project that aims to photograph species before it is too late. In addition to creating an archival record for generations to come, this project is a hopeful platform for conservation and shines a light on individuals and organizations working to preserve species around the world.

National Geographic is showcasing this important project through multiple platforms, including a traveling National Geographic exhibition, “National Geographic Photo Ark,” that opens at Liquidity Winery in Okanagan Falls from June 23rd , 2018. Featuring the work of National Geographic photographer and Fellow Joel Sartore, the exhibition will be on display until September 3rd, 2018. This exhibition is organized by the National Geographic Society and Liquidity Winery.

Sartore estimates the completed National Geographic Photo Ark will include portraits of over 12,000 species representing several animal classes, including birds, fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. In what will be the largest single archive of studio-quality photographs of biodiversity ever, the National Geographic Photo Ark continues to move toward its goal of documenting these 12,000 species in captivity, thanks in part to Sartore’s enduring relationships with many of the world’s zoos and aquariums. These iconic portraits have captured the imagination of people around the world and have even been projected on the Empire State Building and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.

The “National Geographic Photo Ark” exhibition will highlight more than 40 of Sartore's most compelling images and provide visitors with the unique opportunity to come face to face with animals from the National Geographic Photo Ark. Sartore has worked in more than 250 zoos, aquariums and animal rescue centers around the world.

“The National Geographic Photo Ark has already inspired millions around the world with the message that it is not too late to save some of the world’s most endangered species,” said Kathryn Keane, vice president of Exhibitions, National Geographic Society. “Joel Sartore has demonstrated what one man can do using the power of photography—and now National Geographic wants to inspire people all over the country to contribute to this global challenge.”

Wine Talks 3, featuring John E. Peller, comes to Okanagan College Penticton

Together with Liquidity Winery, Okanagan College is presenting the third installment of its popular Wine Talks series on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the College’s Penticton campus.

The third event will feature a single keynote speaker whose recognition and distinction in the industry is notable.

John E. Peller, LLB, is the Chair and CEO of Andrew Peller Limited. His company’s brands include a growing number of Okanagan wineries, among them are Sandhill, Calona Vineyards and Red Rooster. Andrew Peller Limited made headlines this month when news broke of a $95-million-dollar deal to acquire three additional Okanagan wineries: Black Hills Estate, Gray Monk Estate and Tinhorn Creek Vineyards.

“The topic seems very timely,” says Jim Hamilton, President of Okanagan College. “This event has been well attended by our community and has brought a lot of value to the industry and I expect to see that trend continue with our third event.”

Peller began his legal career in 1980 in Hamilton, Ontario where he practiced corporate and commercial law. He spent a year in France attending the L’institute de Touraine for six months and worked for six months with DeLuze, the wine subsidiary of Remy Martin. He spent the next four years in New Jersey working with Nabisco Brands Inc., first as Manager, Corporate Planning and Development and then as Regional Marketing Manager for the Grocery Products Division (North East Division).

He joined Andrew Peller Ltd. in 1989, assuming the role of Vice President, Sales and Marketing Planning. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in 1990 and to the position of Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing in 1991. He became President and Chief Operating Officer in 1992, then President and Chief Executive Officer in 1994. He is currently Chair and Chief Executive Officer.

“This is a unique opportunity to hear from a leader of the Canadian wine industry,” says Ian MacDonald, owner of Liquidity Winery. “John's bold vision continues to shape the future of this business.”

Wine Talks will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Penticton campus of Okanagan College (room PC 113, 583 Duncan Avenue West), from 7 to 9 p.m., including a coffee and wine break. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online here.

    Wines featured in the UK

Back in May our winemaker, Alison Moyes, travelled to London, England, to take part in some events that were showcasing Canadian wines. Just this past week, a summary of some of those wines were featured in Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, in an article by Richard Hemming, MW. Here are the lovely reviews on our Viognier and our Chardonnay Estate...

"Liquidity Viognier 2016 Okanagan Valley Total Production 1,150 cases. Clone 642, planted 2005 and 2008.

Super-sweet fragrance with young fresh stone fruit and loads of honeysuckle and jasmine fragrance. Mouth-filling body yet bright acid gives a refreshing finish. Excellent typicality. (RH)13.7% Drink 2017-2019       17[90 pts]

"Liquidity Chardonnay [Estate] 2015 Okanagan Valley Planted 1994 and 2009. Clone 76. 384 cases.

Biscuit, cream and apricot on the nose - ripe but not fat. The dairy and oak spice is judged so cleverly. Hugely satisfying - flavoursome, yet retains something of the neutrality of the variety, somehow - not strongly aromatic, just combines oak, dairy and fruit character in a really convincing way. Very good. (RH)13.5% Drink 2016-2019       17[90 pts]

    New Art at Liquidity!

This past Saturday morning, a crowd of art-lovers gathered in the tasting room before regular opening hours to listen to artist Jeff Burgess describe his latest piece, "The Dinner Party", which is now featured on the main wall adjacent to the tasting bar. This is a piece that Liquidity Wines has commissioned and that Jeff has worked on over the past year now.

Jeff's initial inspiration for this ensemble piece was from the Mad Hatter's Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland. He immersed himself in David Day's book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Decoded and found many fascinating metaphors that Lewis Carroll had hidden in the story, and that is where the idea of an At Table scenario first presented itself.

This wonderful, whimsical piece is full of numerous allegorical themes that reference art history as well as literary and mythological sources. To see it in person and to read through Jeff's description, please stop by the tasting room. Open daily from 11am to 6pm.
